Who are Museum Patrons?

Patron Guide

Museum Patrons are individuals just like you who support the Anderson County Museum through an annual membership.

Friends of the Anderson County Museum

The Friends of the Anderson County Museum is a private 501(C)3 non-profit organization. Gifts made to the Friends of the Anderson County Museum exclusively support Museum exhibits and programs. Anderson County funds the Museum’s staff and the operation of its facility. It is more important than ever to preserve the fabric of our history by investing in our past and future for generations to come. The Friends raise money annually through memberships, the Gala, the Friends Store, and other events. Please join the Friends of the Anderson County Museum to support our exhibits and educational programs!

Our Mission: The award winning Anderson County Museum collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts that document the history of Anderson County and South Carolina.

Our Vision: As the custodian of local and regional history, the Anderson county Museum is a key element in our county’s cultural arts scene and intellectual landscape. We seek to broaden the perspectives of visitors through exhibits and programs which celebrate our shared pasts, commemorate growth, and promote healthy discussion throughout the community.

We value education and a culture of inclusion as we offer opportunities for visitors to explore, discover, and enjoy history. We aim to serve as a community center and to provide an environment which welcomes and encourages our patrons to genuinely encounter the past.

What Patrons Support

Exhibits: The 12,000 square foot Fred Whitten Gallery has several permanent and temporary exhibits.

Museum Store: If you are looking for a special gift or book, check out the ACM store. Fun by the Friends of ACM, the store supports local authors and is one of the many ways the Friends help raise money for ACM.

Education: Monthly programs, book signings, and presentation offer something for every age group.

Collections: As an actively collecting museum, we work to preserve Anderson County history one piece at a time.

Roper Research Room: Our research room is a great resource for teachers, students, and researchers. Cataloged in our database are more than 19,000 artifacts with pictures attached.

Events: We host a range of unique events from Pirates and Princesses, to Galas and Exhibit Openings.
