The Anderson County Museum Youth Council is for middle school, high school, and college age students looking for volunteer opportunities in their community. This program is a great opportunity to get service hours for Beta Club and Honors Society, build a college or scholarship application, or build a resume and grain experience in a future career field.
There are several different volunteer opportunities at the Museum designated specifically for our Youth Council. Check out the categories and availability below.
Age Range: Middle School - College
Our Museum greeters sit at the desk at the entrance of the Museum and welcome visitors. Greeters sign in visitors, pass out maps, give out scavenger hunt prizes, and occasionally help with event preparation. This position is a 3 hour shift, 1 day a month.
For older students looking to pursue a career in education, we have volunteer opportunities in our monthly programming for Preschool Hour, Dinosaur Club, and American Girl Club. Volunteers can assist in preparation for the programs or help during the programs each month. This position requires 1 hour a month during the program, and additional hours in preparation as needed.
Interested in researching, cataloging, or fact finding? We have volunteer opportunities there too! Students can work with our online cataloging database with our curator in the Research Room, or assist in research for upcoming exhibits. This position requires training with flexible hours.
The Anderson County Museum has a new event every week. Our Youth Council helps coming up with ideas and planning some of these events. Like education, volunteers can assist in preparation, like decorating or crafts, or during the program, like cosplay or characters. Special Event volunteers usually require 1 hour at the event, and additional hours in preparation as needed.
