Education
Anderson County Museum’s Educational Outreach
• Do you know why Anderson is called the electric city?
• Did you know the inventor of the movie theatre turnstile was an Anderson native?
• Do you know the name of the town that was lost when Lake Hartwell was formed?
All the answers to these questions can be found at the Anderson County Museum!
The Anderson County Museum is an excellent resource for students of all ages. We aim to help people enjoy our community and to develop their knowledge of the history of this area. The Museum features programs for families, schools and community groups. We offer many programs catering to students meant to help teachers bring history to life.
The Anderson County Museum offers tours to groups of students, scouts, church groups and more by appointment. Teachers and group leaders are welcome to request a generalized tour of the Museum or a tour with a more specialized age-specific direction. The museum uses permanent and temporary exhibits to anchor interpretative tours. For educators, these programs are structured to provide meaningful experiences in Anderson County history that are directly connected to the South Carolina Social Studies standards.
Our Reading and Research Room offers resources that concentrate on the history of Anderson County with over 2300 photographs. The Reading and Research Room is ideal for older middle and high school students as they research papers on Anderson County or South Carolina history. To learn more, visit the Reading and Research room.
If you wish to make a day of visiting the museum, rooms can be provided for lunch.
