About Us

Our gallery is named in honor of Mr. Fred Whitten for his dedicated service to preserving the history of Anderson County, and for his constant devotion in creating and supporting the Museum in every phase of its development. In this photograph, Mr. Whitten gets a sneak peak at Trade Street.
Mission Statement:
The Anderson County Museum collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts that document the history of Anderson County and educates a diverse audience by creating a place where visitors find meaning in learning the local, regional, and national significance of Anderson County and its citizens.
Museum Facts:
Our 12,000 square foot Fred Whitten Gallery contains 13 permanent exhibits, a temporary exhibit gallery, and multiple changing exhibits. Exhibits range from textiles to military history to religious history.
The Anderson County Museum (ACM) boasts over 20,000 diverse artifacts in its archives. The Reading and Research Room contains 1,600 volumes and 2,000 historic photographs for public study.
The ACM accepts artifact donations at the discretion of its curator. If you have an item you would like to donate, please call and schedule an appointment. 864.260.4737
